This volume is the product of a collective effort directed by three Greek-American academics, who gather the knowledge and analytical skills of some of the finest experts on Greek-Balkan and Greek-European relations. The book is a critical overview of the Greek cultural, economic and especially political influence on its northern neighbors. Browsing through the contributions in this book, readers can find a detailed retrospective of Greece's role in the Balkans from the beginnings of the 20th century to the eve of the war in Kosovo, with several historic references going further back in time. It also summarizes and evaluates the current role of Greece in the Balkans, taking into consideration the parameters of the American foreign policy, NATO, the European Union, Russia and finally the "traditional rival", Turkey. The advantage of the book is the excellent documentation and exploration of the issue's multiple aspects. A drawback is the frequent overlapping of information between chapters, especially when discussing the Greek foreign policy in the Balkans during the 90s. Undoubtedly, the book examines the developments in the Balkans from a Greek point of view. It could be argued that the fact that the majority of its contributors are Greek results in a certain degree of similarity in their choice of primary sources and theoretical tools. Therefore they eventually reach similar conclusions.

Quick delivery- bad quality of binding

Delivery was good and in time; however, after using the book for exactly a month, I noticed that the page binding is not rigid. Bearing in mind that I take specific care of all my books, especially those for my academic work, I consider it unacceptable that some pages are about to go away! The Telling Stones

This is a compelling read. Short chapters, each a separate story with intriguing characters and told with an economy of words that is both unusual and somehow, oddly, evocative. It's as if Riktam himself is a shadow within the anecdotes....which of course makes sense by the time you come to The Mad Bastard's Guide. There is no Riktam any more. He was talked down into the 'vast nothing' by Isaac Shapiro. Sometimes I didn't get what was being said on first reading and had to look again....and it was always worth the effort. There is here a depth of original expression that marks out this writer as not an ordinary man.

A well written book that takes the reader into a realm that feels like the experience is the readers own. This action adventure story is great if you the genre set in the golden age.

Captain Hawklin and the Skyhook Pirates is an action story set in the 1930's during a time when being an adventure hero was a way of life. Steven Hawklin is the guardian of Crown City, a war hero, ace pilot and a brilliant scientist. He's a global troubleshooter who finds his past catching up with him.

The world is on the brink of global war, and the mastermind, Skyhook, is out to sell the ultimate weapon to the highest bidder and Hawklin must stop anyone from getting it.

I enjoyed the first book of this series and look forward to reading more. If you like action stories set in the golden age I would recommend this book.

About the Author
Michael Harris has taught in Spain, Bolivia and Colombia. From 1982 to 1992 he taught at the British Institute for Young Learners in Madrid, where he was responsible for setting up the Junior Department (11-14 year olds). From 1992 to 1996 he also taught English at the University of Alcala de Henares. At the moment he is involved in teacher training in Spain and other parts of the world. Michael is the co-author of World Class (Longman, 1994), Worldcup (Longman, 2000) and the new five-level secondary course Opportunities (Longman, 2002 Website: www.longman.com/opportunities). He has also published articles and methodology books on the following topics: Syllabus design; self-assessment: continuos assessment and testing: learner development: oral skills: culture and language learning. Anna Sikorzynska has worked as a teacher and teacher trainer in Poland for fifteen years in various contexts: state schools, private language schools, universities, pre-service and in service teacher training. She also writes and reviews exam materials for the national exam board. She's worked at Warsaw University, English Teacher Training College since 1991, teaching English grammar and methodology of teaching English as a foreign language. Her main professional interest is teaching grammar. She has written and co-written various books, including exam preparation materials, methodology resource books for teachers and the five-level course for upper-secondary students 'Opportunities' (with Michael Harris and David Mower).
