Must have for fans of the most interesting music magazine ever

I've been reading the Wire for two decades. Back when I worked in a music store in the mid 90s and thought I knew everything about music, the Wire was consistently the one magazine that would always reveal music I'd never heard of or considered. For those who haven't been reading this great magazine for as long, this is a great way to catch up on some essential acts/genres of underground and outer limits music. Even as a long-time reader, I saw a few pieces I had previously missed or had forgotten about. The Primers and Invisible Jukebox are the greatest part of the mag, and it's great to see one captured here.

The book was used but in good condition. That didn't matter because I had been looking everywhere I could think of to find a copy. It is a really cute book/story and one of my children's favorites. We had a copy long ago, but somehow lost it.

The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree

ISBN 0307020010 - My Christmas book collection couldn't possibly be complete without Amye Rosenberg's The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree. This edition, in paperback, isn't my favorite, only because the book gets a lot of reading and wear; I prefer the hardcover.

In the trunk of a large fir tree in the forest, there are three cozy homes. Mr. and Mrs. Fieldmouse live on the first floor and Old Gray Acorn, a squirrel, lives on the top floor. In the middle, there are the Chipmunks, a family of four, including Little Nina and Nutley. Each Christmas, the children prepare for Santa's visit - and each year, he doesn't come. This year, Mom and Dad throw a party to cheer them up. Aunt Mim, their favorite aunt, comes and, when the kids tell her why they're sad, she has a great idea. She thinks Santa doesn't come because their house just looks like any other tree, so they will decorate their tree to be sure Santa can't possibly miss it. Everyone pitches in and they all agree - it's the biggest, most beautiful Christmas tree in the world. When Santa finally does find them, a tradition is born.

As a kid, I found the book made me very sad, to think Santa could miss anyone! Even the happy resolution didn't make me feel better about it. Rosenberg is both author and illustrator and she's done a superb job. The illustrations, which take up all or almost all of every page, are engaging, fun and vivid. The details are nice, the colors are bright and they contribute so much to the story. The text is fairly simple and the story, like all good Christmas tales, does have the required happy ending, confirming that Santa doesn't overlook any child intentionally.

My Favorite Christmas Book

This is one of the best Christmas books. For some reason, Santa Claus never comes to the tree that the Chipmunk family lives in. They celebrate as well as they can, but the Chipmunk children, Nina and Nutley, always hope that Santa Claus will come. One Christmas, Aunt Mim comes to visit, and decides that Santa never comes because he can't tell their tree apart from all the other trees in the forest, and so the Chipmunks decorate their tree. The illustrations are beautiful, and very festive, and overall, this is a wonderful holiday story.

Fantastic book. Authors give great explanations of performance optimizations around storage, network, memory, and CPU. I am currently driving an overall VMware Capacity Management plan for a customer and this book is a fantastic reference. What I especially like is that the authors tell you the potential caveats around different performance tweaks and guide you to the factors you need to take into account. Excellent book and a worthy edition to your library.

John has over 27 years experience working in and with a variety of commercial, non-profit, and government organizations from Asia to Europe. He has had a wide variety of work experiences from his first job as a Jet Engine Mechanic for the U.S. Air Force to Vice President of Corporate Quality and Business Excellence for Dade Behring a $1.3 billion in vitro diagnostics manufacturer with operations in 40 countries. Some of his clients have included Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Airlift & Tanker, Kawasaki Robotics, British Airways, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, ASTD and TATA (India).
John has served on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners since 1996. He served as an Examiner in 1996, a Senior Examiner from 1997 to 2001, and an Alumni examiner in 2003 and 2004. A big improvement from the first volume.

To be honest, I didn't have very high expectations after the somewhat lackluster first volume, but I was pleasantly surprised here. This volume cleared up the mechanism of how Homura's magic works, as well as why Madoka always ends up turning into a witch. We all knew going in that Homura would have to abandon this timeline at the end, but even with that, this spinoff gave the timeline a good ending. All in all, this was very good.

A little bit better.

The second volume of Homura's revenge is a small step up from the first. The artwork is still excellent, and the author stopped trying to make a joke out of everything like in the first volume. This gives the volume a consistent serious tone that it needed. However, there are still some dumb plot decisions that prevented me from truly liking this volume.

Great book for people re-taking Spanish

This book is great for anyone who has studied Spanish before but wants to seriously get a handle on the language. It provides enough specific information to add to an intermediate speaker's ability without being too repetitive. I have found that when I took Spanish again in college I was bored to tears with too much review material at a very slow pace; this book provides enough granular information to occupy even 4th year students with important information. It begins with present indicative, number, gender, etc. (like all spanish textbooks) but continues quickly enough to keep the student interested, so the student can spend a short amount of time on each subject and really improve their speaking and writing overall.
