Holloway met Tyson in 1982, when the future champ was sixteen and living in a juvenile detention home in upstate New York. Tyson soon was living in Holloway’s family Albany home. Stunning book to say the least! It starts with Rory Holloway forming a bond with childhood friend Mike Tyson nearly 30 years ago. It has everything from Tyson's jail sentence, his criminal and violent behavior, and of course his rise becoming the heavyweight champion of the WORLD, and the HIGHEST PAID ATHLETE at that time. Holloway and Erin Wilson then dives deep into the legacy that saw the champ bite a man's ear in the ring, and nearly lose his freedom again! Excellent BOOK! I enjoyed this book about the most amazing boxer who seems to have always been out of control. This book is called Taming the Beast but I don't think Rory Holloway ever really tamed him...would could? I enjoyed learning about Mr. Holloway as I have met him in a few events and business meetings and really admire the way he speaks and carries himself. Such a classy man deserves much better than the career Tyson had after going to jail for rape. Tyson should have made Holloway the most famous and liked boxing managers in history but instead turned his back on him. Its a crazy story and that's why I read both Tyson and Holloway books to fully understand, and I still blame Tyson 1,000% like --Carmela Goodreads Reviews
About the Author
RORY HOLLOWAY’s name became inextricably linked to Mike Tyson, from his relationship with the former champion dating back to when both were teenagers in upstate New York. Rory is one of Mike’s oldest friends and one-time manager of the former Heavyweight Champion. In 1983, Mr. Holloway became one of the original members of Team Tyson and helped guide Mike to becoming the youngest Heavyweight Champion in boxing history, at the age of 19 years old. In 1995, Rory became the official manager of Mike Tyson, in which he participated in the negotiations for the largest [individual] sports contract in history, totaling $375 million. Rory now resides in Connecticut with his wife of 27 years.

Great read ,,I can say this if Rory wasn't babysitting mike for all those years he would have never made as far as he did,,Cus was a joke let mike do what ever mike wanted to do ,,,Cus was a trainer and that was it,,,

Great read. Very Surprising.

I was very interested to read this book and see what it was about. I love Eric Wilson books and have read all of his novels. I wanted to read this his first memoir book. Second I remeber growing up when Mike Tyson became the Heavyweight champion. I remembered the ris and his eventual fall in the sport. This is a memoir told I question and answer form goes behind the scenes with Mike Tysons friend and eventual manager. It tell more of the story and fills in lots of details on what happened. It does have language in Rory's answers as well. Rory holds nothing back in the story. It is s great book and I loved finding out more of what happened and not just what the media told you during this time. Eric Wilson does another fantastic job in bringing this memoir and story to life. You can really tell that just as in his novels that he really did his research and poured everything into this book. I know this isn't my typical book to read but I loved it and can't wait to see what Eric Wilson has in store in the future. This is a very open book and very detailed in its frankness and content. A great read that will help you learn more of what happened in these lives.
