About the Author
Vincentian priest Gerard H. Luttenberger received his doctoral degree in Systematic Theology from Fribourg University, Switzerland, and has taught theology at the graduate level since 1966, with a specialization in Christology since 1985. He is currently Vincentian Formation Director at the Miraculous Medal House, Queens, New York, and serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at St. John's University, Queens, New York, with a specific dedication to service on the Academic Committee of the Board.

Great Basic Book on Christology

Great introduction to the study of Christology. The book is comprehensive and through. The author was a long term professor of theology at the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, NY. For a Christological textbook it is relatively easy to read and understand. Great reference book to have in a theological library.

A boring attack on faith in the guise of "scholarship"

This tedious and repetitious tome is overpriced at any cost. The "author" borrows and quotes extensively from "progressive" theologians to promote a "historical-critical " analysis of the life, mission and works of Christ. When one peels back the rambling and redundant language, we see this this is simply another instance of modernism attempting to diminish faith. As examples; miracles are called such only when "re-interpreted" in the eyes of faith; those who died may have actually only been in a coma;followers of Christ interpreted the Resurrection more from their own belief experiences rather than from evidence; and on and on. Bad enough for persons of faith to have to read such drivel, it becomes excruciating when Luttenberger-having established his offensive themes-goes on page after page to say the same thing over and over in only slightly different words.
I had to read this for a course I'm taking and will look to get it out of my house as soon as the class is done. If you are looking for a work on Christology to read to inform your faith-keep looking. If you must read a "modern" view which will attempt to apply present-day historical analysis-complete with its painful inadequacy and short-sightedness-this text will supply that need-provided you are able to stay awake.
