I have found better recipes searching the internet. Recipes in this book require odd ingredients (pig head) or spices "of choice", or are just unfamiliar.

Double Dribble

Ok, first and foremost. Chris is NO Ryan Hunter. Let's get real. I read the reviews, and I'm sorry, but I must disagree. Ryan is in a league of his own. I did like Chris. He was very charming. And I absolutely loved his overall demeanor. I like that he never gave up. He's no quitter. I loved the first half of the book. But towards the end, I was getting tired reading about Susan's insecurities.
It started to become too repetitive. And the ending, WOW!. . I honestly don't know if it's sending the right message. I mean, it happens every day. But, I don't think the author should of went that route (especially at their age). I liked this book a lot. But, I felt it kind of dragged.

Good Book but not a fan of the ending (my opinion and I shortly explain why)

Honestly, this book has a great beginning. I was hooked. I would give it 3 and a half stars but i cant. I admit that Chris, one of the male lead characters, was described as a bad boy (very predictable personality). I did not care much for him but he grew on me. I would say something about what made me like this one character, which was an emotionally short scene and if you read this, you might know what i am referring to.

So here is the plot, Sue meets Ethan during the soccer practice. Ethan is replacing Sue, until Sue recovers from her injury. Sue was mad at this but learned to like Ethan as they talked more that day. They had a lot in common, especially a band, and Sue mentions that she has these dvds of them and stuff. The next day, she looks for Ethan to give him the band's dvd, but unknowing, meets Chris, who is Ethan's twin and he humiliates her. From this misunderstanding, things happen and Sue learns the truth, but now there is a situation where Sue likes Ethan a lot but Chris seems to try to make a move and flirt with Sue every chance he gets.

As mentioned, the most of the book was great. Loved it, but I have a big problem where guys tend to start calling girls "babe" and saying "my girl." This is what happened. It felt like you gave a guy these sweet characteristics that I liked and then made him into guy who was still sweet, but protective when in defense. In addition, I was not a fan of the epilogue at the end. The book went from a sweet book to something that I was feeling ugh with the ending. I could have done without the epilogue and I would not have lowered the score because it is a good book. This is just me. It does not mean it was a horrible book.

Another great book by Anna Katmore!

It's finally Susans turn at finding love! After getting injured playing soccer, Susan has to take a brake from the team. Taking her place in the mean time, Ethan enters into her life and sparks start to fly. But when he seems to have split personalities, her introduction to dating is nothing like she envisioned.

I loved the book and the interaction between the main characters and getting to know Susan a little better. The characters were well developed and felt very real. Ethan, the sweet guy with a secret. Chris, the player with a sneaky streak. And Susan, the bookworm being introduced to dating for the first time.
It is part of Annas bookseries, Grover Beach Team, and though I would advise you to read the previous books before this one, it is not a must.

The book is a good mix of funny, sweet and serious and I was hooked from the beginning.
I'd recommend this to readers that wants to read a sweet, mostly innocent and fun book!

EXCELLENT series about Titanic

Time Voyage is the first in a set of 4 books about a couple of modern-day 14-year-old kids who are whisked back through time to experience the Titanic's first -- and only -- voyage.

After reading book 1, I'm most definitely "on board" with the plot Brezenoff created! He has interwoven the important facts of the RMS Titanic into a relatable story that kids today will understand... and they'll even enjoy learning about history this way. In a similar way to the popular Magic Tree House series, two friends, Tucker and Maya, are in a museum warehouse in 2012 one minute... and open their eyes in 1912 the next.

Once there, Tucker and Maya interact with other passengers and learn true facts about the giant ship... even meeting important people who were aboard. The element of time travel used in the book will intrigue young readers, and they'll be gaining historical knowledge without even realizing it.

The illustrations are fantastic and very true-to-life! The artwork certainly added some great features to the story.

Recommended for a 3rd grade reading level, although older readers would probably like breezing through the series too. Little children could easily enjoy this as a read-aloud with parents, because there are so many pages with cool illustrations to look at.

This series is definitely recommended by me!

Just right for a middle-grade novel

When two pre-teens are tasked with helping to uncrate artifacts for a museum exhibit recognize the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's maiden voyage they are less than thrilled.
But things get much more thrilling as they are transported back through time and begin meeting people that they know may not live through this trip. Now, they have to decide whether to change history or stay off of the boat.

This was really a lot of fun. The characters were just right for a middle-grade novel. The adventure mysterious yet fun. The imagery was very realistic.

Totally nostalgic time travel to Titanic

Holy crap. I have so much love for this book it's quite possibly bordering on unhealthy. The love is not just for the book's topic (MAJOR love) but for the writing. It's probably because I hardly read middle grade books but TIME VOYAGE is written so amazingly that I can't form thoughts beyond ill-conceived adjectives. There is no pandering to the reader whatsoever, no talking down, no kiddie feel. Yeah, it's written in a very precise way. Absolutely no fat (and as a result very little detail or depth) but Brezenoff wrote it in such a way that it told the story that needed to be told and you got out of it what you should. You get just enough emotion, just enough feeling, just enough depth to really connect with it. As someone that is WELL beyond middle grade reading, I didn't feel like an adult reading a kid's story (like when I read GOOSEBUMPS, for instance). I just felt like I was reading a succinct story about one of my favorite topics. The amazing pictures didn't hurt either. Okay, the kids may be a little whiny at first but that's short lived.

And the story! Just being able to touch a ticket and get zapped back in time? If you were a history nerd like me when you were younger (and maybe still are), if that fantastical thought never crossed your mind I will sit here and call you a big fat LIAR! That's epic fantasy right there and Brezenoff pulled it off without it being hokey at all. Touch the ticket, flash, back in time. No frilly waves or flashing lights. Just poof! Time warp.

Of course, TIME VOYAGE left me wanting MORE! How could it not? I read it in the span of roughly 20 minutes and it just hit all the right happy nerves on me. And let me tell you how giddy my inner Titanic nerd was. Insane. Thankfully there are three other books in this series and I so can't wait to read them. Between the phenomenal story and the absolutely amazing drawings to supplement it, RETURN TO TITANIC as a whole won't be a series to miss. So be sure to pick up TIME VOYAGE and start yourself, and any other Titanic aficionado you know, on the journey.

Bad choice for Kindle

Always look forward to this reference and thought it would make a good addition to my Kindle. I can't recommend that and suggest you stay with the paper version. The Kindle version appears to be screen shots of all too many of the tables and charts making them virtually unreadably small, and changing font size has no effect on these 'pictures'. Very disappointed.

Illegible dumps (tiny repros) ruin this Kindle edition

Totally frustrating experience trying to read this ridiculous excuse for a Kindle edition! The clowns producing and selling us this garbage apparently have no shame in ripping people off, people who might want to actually *read* any of those many many tables and lists so common in an almanac!

In fact, this is worse than a simple waste -- it's literally infuriating!

I should have read the other reviews before purchasing this sorry 'piece of work'!! So much of it is just a nasty bait-and-switch con that there really should be laws against allowing this kind of customer rip-off, since normal ethical practices are obviously not even considered by the crooks who stick us with this pile of illegible screen shots for so many of its pages of tables and lists.

I'd try to get my money back if I knew of a way to do that for a Kindle purchase (on Jan 17, 2011).

Shame on the crooked publishers pawning this garbage off as an actual book to read ...

Thanks to the kindness of Lady Galaxy for reminding me of the Amazon policy of being able to receive a refund for a Kindle book within a week of purchase (I'd never felt the need before), I requested and promptly received just that! I was also very pleased with the marvelously generous and pleasant Amazon support for the Kindle, getting immediate approval for a refund for this sorry production of a Kindle book -- no hassle at all ... and I remain a devoted Kindle user and happy customer once again! In fact I'm such a Kindle fan that I'm always recommending it to others ... and this experience only adds to the good reasons for doing so !!

I am reviewing the Kindle edition. I should have looked at the reviews more carefully before I purchased and realized that there were almost no Kindle reviews. I thought that as I was looking in the Kindle section the reviews were all for the Kindle edition. Not the case- they are all lumped together - Hardback edition, paperback edition and Kindle edition.

The Kindle edition has several large problems compared with the print editions. First of all, for some reason, there are large omissions from the print editions. I have no idea why since size should not be a factor when creating the electronic version. You actually are getting a greater volume of information when you buy the paperback.

Secondly, all the charts and graphs are scanned in somehow and are difficult to read. If the resolution of the scan was better, it might help. However, most of these tables could be made electronically just like the text. After all, that is how they are originally made before they are published in print form. Now I grant you that it must be more difficult to publish an almanac electronically compared with, say, a John Grisham novel (which is just one really large text file), but this is what the electonic medium should be about.

Also, the full index is not present in electronic form - just the table of contents. This makes it very difficult to find particular information you want to look up. Say you want to know the state flower of Indiana. The best you can do is find that USA section in the table of contents and then turn pages - one by one - till you find Indiana and then read. You could find it in the paperback in 10 seconds - it would take minutes on the Kindle. There is no reason they could not have a detailed index at the back.

Hopefully, this will get better as electronic book publishing improves over time. I have always thought it would be great to have an almanac on a device like the Kindle or Ipad to have all this info at your fingertips, but it will have to be in a much improved published format to be really useful.

30 Years and Still Going Strong!

The first time I saw the Dayglo Abortions was about 20 years ago (I was in grade 8) and I remember buying a T-shirt at the show that had some questionable words on the front. Thinking I was cool, I wore it to school the next day only to have the principal haul me into his office where I was asked to turn the shirt inside out, or course I complied but ever since that show I have been a fan of the band . So when I discovered only recently that Chris Walters wrote a book documenting one of the most persevering punk bands in the world I knew it should make for an interesting story.
The book begins with a little background on the founding members, focussing mainly on Murray "The Cretin" Acton and how his resentment of authority helped forge the future Dayglo modus operandi. It was during these early years that Murray had met Jesus Bonehead, by all accounts the longest standing member of the Dayglo Abortions, and a man who gave it his all day in and day out to bring the Dayglo sound to the masses. Through this friendship we learn of the early incarnation of the Daylo's and the story just gets more exciting from there.
The story continues on and documents the many punk shows and endless partying, beer drinking, mechanical breakdowns and rotation of members the band was involved with throughout the years. We get a great idea as to what it would be like attending these wild and seemingly crazy shows and tours and at times question the sanity of the band member's actions. It amazed me to learn that through all the members changing guard the band maintained it's main purpose: upset the status quo with lyrics that punch political correctness in the face. It was these same lyrics that brought the police bearing down on the band and Chris provided some insight into the censorship case brought against the Dayglo's and Fringe Records.
Thirty years later and our `heroes' survived the legal proceedings and continue to make records that fight the establishment. Pick up this read that documents one of the most influential and crazy punk bands in Canada...maybe the world!

The Dayglo Abortions are a band that I really liked since probably around 1986

The Dayglo Abortions are a band that I really liked since probably around 1986. Through that time, the band developed quite a reputation, quite a history, and there were lots of rumors and stories that I heard over the years, but nothing that I was ever in a position to verify. When this book came out, it was my opportunity to find out the true story behind the band.

Chris Walter took on quite a task in writing the book, but he succeeded admirably. He writes a very detailed account of the band's history, from the start right up to the time of the book's completion. Through extensive interviews with band members, friends and fans of the band, he is able to paint a portrait of the band is such a way that is was very easy for me to fall in the world of the Dayglo's and really better understand who the band was, where they came from, and the troubles and hardships they faced throughout their career.

For any fan of the band, this book is essential reading. If you like punk rock, or music biographies, this will be a fantastic read for you. Or if you are just curious and don't even know the band or the style of music, Chris Walter will provide you a very well written understanding of what it's all about. This book is so well written and such a great read that it doesn't matter if you are a fan or not, you will enjoy this book.
