Develops You in the Gospel Instead of Merely Telling You About It

The Gospel Primer is a book that many have been waiting for. It isn't merely a book about the gospel, telling you what it is, but it is a book that opens up the heart and gives the "why" of the gospel so that you can work out the "how" of the gospel.
This book is quite different than most you will see. It is laid out like it's "sister books" (Tangible Kingdom and Barefoot Church Primers) by having the reader work this out with a community in an 8 week time period.
Each week is broken down day by day:
Day 1: Exploration: This is the day that gives you information on the concepts that will be worked out for the week. This exploration really hits the "head" to challenge you and where you currently are at. Even here, it isn't all about information, but questions to aid you in the understanding
Day 2: Meditation: Focuses on a few scripture verses/passages for the reader to be soaked in. Then questions to aid the reader in applying.
Day 3: Change: Focuses on how the exploration and meditation should change your life. What would your life look like if this change happened? etc. This is the development of the heart phase of understanding a concept to how it now is changing your deep understanding of your soul. Where the heart is affected, real change can happen.
Day 4: Action: As your heart is changed, you should start crying out, "what should I do with this?" Action day puts into practice (the hands and feet) the heart change you are experiencing.
Day 5: Community: This part is beautiful. For too long we've lived out a "personal walk with Jesus" instead of living it out in community. Community day is one that challenges this and has you work out the first 4 days together around a meal, coffee, or whatever so you can see how others are working these things out and how you can work them out together.
Day 6: Calibration: Now that you've worked this out some, this day brings it back to the original topic at a different angle. Now that you've lived it out some, you'll have a different perspective and this day challenges, aids and gives some additional things to think about.
Day 7: Recreate: This is where you will rest so you can be ready for the next week to come. This day involves much listening to God to see what he has for you to learn from the week you've just gone through and so he can prepare you for the next week(s) to come.
This is the pattern for the 8 weeks as you go through this. This is not just some curriculum, but is an amazing tool to aid the reader, in community to have real life changes. It's discovery, not merely information transfer, like most books are. It's developing you to understand how the gospel is actually good news for you, for your community and for your neighbors.
You'll learn the following in a mere 8 weeks (this learning will continue to take place for the rest of your life, but this type of experiential learning will fast track you into the ways of the gospel in more amazing ways than you or your community has experienced before):
1. What is the Gospel?
Becoming gospel fluent knowing what the gospel has done for us in the past, present and the future
2. The Story
What is the overarching Story of God and how do our (and our neighbors, friends, families, co-workers) stories fit into his story?
3. Your Gospel Story
Understanding how to know your story and how you can use your story to speak effectively into the lives of others
4. Gospel Listening
Listening to the stories of others, so you can effectively apply the good news where they need redemption
5. Four Eternal Truths
These four truths are simple ways to remove obstacles in our practical beliefs about who God is and what he has done.
6. Two Lenses
This focuses on the Power and the Purpose of the Gospel
7. Gospel Identity
Week 7 ensures that you will understand who you are because of the gospel, before you understand what you are to do. This aids people to be free in Jesus, instead of feeling like he only has rules to follow
8. Gospel Rhythms
After understanding who you are, Gospel rhythms points you to the everyday things you, and those you are reaching, are already doing so you can then live a life that is restful with gospel intention.
I cannot recommend this book enough. I am currently starting a new Missional Community and this is the first thing we are doing. When someone asks what they should be going through with their community, this book, this developmental tool, is the first thing I point to.
Very thankful for Caesar and my brothers at Soma Communities and Missio for developing something that makes the gospel good news again in a way where anyone can understand what the gospel is and why it is for us today in the every day.

The Best group study I have led!

The Best group study I have led! This was a life transforming/ course altering 8 weeks. I have had the privilege of leading 2 groups through this over the last year and have seen God use it to change lives and direction. I personally have a new view on my life, world and mission. Every week I was reminded of the power of the Gospel, I was challenged with a new way to think and view my world and I had to do something with it. YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS WITH AT LEAST ONE OTHER PERSON. This is not a personal study book, but a book to be lived out in community. A valuable resource to help our group get on mission together in the Gospel! Thanks Caesar!

Creating Community Through Doing the Gospel Not Just Knowing it.

This was such a HUGE part of helping our Missional Community grow in gospel fluency and action. I found the toughest part was getting outside of my own comfort zones to trust the Spirit in stepping out of myself to act on the things this book presents, even more challenging was doing it together as a missional community.
A WARNING:
1. Don't get this UNLESS you plan to go through it with at least one other person.
2. Don't get this if you would rather talk about the gospel rather than live it.
3. Don't get this if you if you want to stay comfortably churchy without growing to be comfortably (in the Spirit) missional.
