Perhaps one star too many

I knew this was a short story when I purchased it but I was expecting something a bit longer than a chapter. There are children's books that are longer.
It took maybe 15 minutes to read and it seemed as though it went from murder to confession in even less time.
Not only that, within half a page, the murder suspect went from one name to another.
When a distraught crofter called Hamish to report a murder, she told him Sarah Parkinson was killed. A paragraph later, Hamish is referring to the deceased as Sarah Harrison. Does MC Beaton no longer need an editor?
I adore these characters, I just wish the author treated them better and developed them more fully and paid attention to the details that she used to in her earlier works.

The murder victim had two different last names. First she was called Parkinson then in the next paragraph it was Harrison! Someone should have caught that before release. Very short story.

Don't waste your money

This book tells you how to deal with hospital administration, other nurses, salary negotiation, etc. It has nothing to do with nursing. I wanted a book that would help me guide new nurses on the floor. This is more of a my first job book. If you want to know how to talk to your boss and how to negotiate a salary (like you really get too as a new nurse.....NOT!) then this book is for you. I suggest you get it at the library first.

This book is almost identical to 150 Tips and Tricks for New Nurses. Same author. Same content. Different title. Only buy one of these Quan books. The Everything New Nurse Book is a bit longer. Both are easy reads.

Excellent investment for quick content coverage

Warning for buyers: be aware that the Examkrackers (EK) 10th ed. verbal reasoning book may be repeating pages 85-102, and missing pages 102-121. I purchased this package from "Dirtcheapbooks4u" and it arrived with damage and had the defective verbal reasoning book just described in the sentence above. I'm not sure if this is a manufacturer error where these defective books are being dished off in bulk to third party companies or if it was just a random fluke. I made EK aware of the issue and their 10th edition in stock seems to be fixed.

Now for the differences between EK 9th and 10th editions; The 10th edition fixes many mistakes from the 9th edition, thus saving an individual a days worth of correcting errors from the EK errata.

I would like to address the 3 biggest changes;
1) The actual text of the 10th ed. biology 1 book, now labeled "biochemistry" instead of "biomolecules" has included some more extensive research and content.
2) The Psychology & Sociology book in the 10th ed. has been amplified with more terms and sufficient content.
3) The five science books now have updated 30-minute exams. Instead of just 3 passages, it is now 4 passages and 5 discrete questions per chapter exam. The first 3 passages of the science books are no different from the 9th and 10th ed.

The other four books; Physics, Chemistry, Biology 2, and Verbal Reasoning seem to be nearly 85% identical to the 9th edition. I will note that the verbal reasoning strategy has had some changes that were noticeable, especially in chapter 4. Basically, EK seems to have updated their verbal strategy. I would just be cautious and check the 10th ed. verbal book to make sure you don't receive a defective. Overall, the 10th addition has been revamped and corrected for precision and accuracy. Excellent investment for quick content coverage.

Originally I received the set missing pages 103-120 as stated by the previous reviewer in the verbal book. But, Amazon sent me a replacement order and the problem was fixed. These books are beautiful with such great photos!

This is an initial rating/review for the package since I haven't had time to thoroughly look through the material. Books arrived in new condition, earlier than expected. Also, I checked the Verbal book for the errors as mentioned in some of the other reviews, and I haven't found them. It appears Examkrackers has resolved it since then and we're getting the right copies now. I've heard good things about this study set so I'm excited (actually dreaded) to get started. Should I come across anything major, I'll revise this review but for now, good buy!

Larry Edsall was snatched away from a career as the sports editor of a daily newspaper in Michigan to become the motorsports editor at AutoWeek magazine, where he spent most of a dozen years as the managing editor. He left Detroit for Phoenix in 1999 to help modernize one automotive website and then launched another, iZoom.com. He is a freelance contributor to automotive and lifestyle publications, writes regularly for the Detroit News "Drive" section, contributes to the New York Times "Wheels," and is part of the adjunct faculty at the journalism school at Arizona State University. He resides in Phoenix, Arizona.

Larry Edsall was snatched away from a career as a daily newspaper sports editor to become motorsports editor at AutoWeek magazine. Before long, he was its automotive industry news and motorsports editor, and for most of his 12 years he served as the magazine's managing editor. Content is interesting and informative. Book cover is Cheap.

I found the author to be very entertaining and informative. The book was well researched and provided some interesting facts behind the scenes of how this ground-breaking vehicle was conceived, designed and produced.

I would give the contents of the book five stars. However, the book cover leaves much to be desired. The photo and artwork are applied (glued?) to bare cardboard. The problem is that the edges of the book do what cardboard eventually does and that is fall apart. It makes a great book look and feel cheap.

Good as far as it goes -- but misses the Big Picture

While the book is informative, providing "insider" details about the design stages at GM and many great photos, it's very much a company-commissioned product. If you read this book you'd think that idea for this kind of car spontaneously appeared to GM. The acknowledgments show as much: for a phenomenal, industry-changing vehicle, the author talked to virtually no one outside the company!

Here are some of the "ingredients" missing: University of California at Davis Professor Andy Frank, who's been designing various flavors of plug-in hybrids for 30 years (including a conversion of a GM EV-1); The California Cars Initiative (the non-profit group I founded, which has promoted PHEVs since 2002); Sherry Boschert's 2006 book, Plug-in Hybrids: The Cars that will Recharge America, the Don't Crush organization and its successor, Plug In America; gm-volt.com, the popular website. You will find a single buried reference to the 2006 filmWho Killed the Electric Car? that had such an impact, and a scattering of mentions about Tesla Motors.

Another casualty of the book's "sponsorship" is that the author doesn't situate the vehicle in the context of the company's new relationship to the outside world. You miss the new spirit of "transparency" GM adopted in developing the vehicle to the outside world both the automotive and green media and the online world and social media. You won't hear much about the four-year dialogue and cooperative effort between GM, the utility industry, government at all levels, and advocates, that led to the Volt's launch in late 2010. Fortunately, others are telling this story to provide these details, and we're looking forward to the sequel movie, "The Revenge of the Electric Car," this spring.

A Marketing-Oriented Review of the Volt Project

This is "Marketing" -style review of the Volt project, almost totally devoid of technical information. There is not even a drawing of the power train, for example. It is written about to the level of Motor Trend magazine, for example. I was disappointed, I was hoping for something more technical and more detailed. Lots of pretty pictures, though. The binding is bizarre and incredibly ugly to my taste -- front cover and back consist of thick slabs of hardboard. Good if you just want to look at pictures.

Hot, sexy, and healthy celebrity romance!

Sophie Pierce has broken free from her old life. She’s stopped her partying ways, stopped seeking paparazzi attention, paid all her debts, and moved out of her father’s house. But growing up also meant she had to give up the man she was falling for. Now that she’s on her own and making a respectable name for herself, her life is about to change in a major way—again.

Watching Sophie become her best self has given Tennyson Wright a push to better his life. No more being a hermit. Tennyson’s getting back to the things he loves in life and reinventing himself. Just as he’s back in the swing of things, shocking news drops into his lap. He’s about to become a father.

Co-parenting under normal circumstances is a challenge. But for Sophie and Tennyson, it’s the ultimate trial. Sophie is still learning how to be independent. Tennyson is still learning who he is. They both live in the spotlight. And neither one is ready to deal with the feelings they have for the other.

With Brave Wings is the sequel to Breaking Free by Cara Dee. This is not a standalone book. Both of these books were amazing and had me wishing for my very own Tennyson.

When we left Sophie and Tennyson at the end of the last book, they both had grown by leaps and bounds and realized continuing their relationship wasn’t in their best interest, no matter how much it hurt to let the other go. As we pick up on their lives a few months later, they’re both just getting to the place where they can be around the other without as much pain, when life throws them a major curveball. Sophie is pregnant, and as the father, Tennyson is back at the forefront of her life.

Both main characters still have a lot of growing to do in this story, and they accomplish it in a way that makes the eventual rekindling of their romance much healthier than it would have been otherwise. Sophie can’t focus on having a man in her life when she’s still trying to figure out how to live it on her own, not to mention throwing a baby into the mix. And Tennyson, although older and wiser, had cut himself off from the things he loves and no longer wants to live his life that way. They each embark on their own journey while maintaining and strengthening their friendship with each other.

In Sophie’s quest to be independent, she ended up going a bit overboard. She wouldn’t allow anyone to help her, even though sometimes she didn’t want to do everything on her own. She learns to balance independence with letting her friends help and ultimately realizes none of the people she looks up to are able to do everything on their own. Sophie also has some family issues to deal with. Although she’s created a wonderful little family of her own, her father has had a wakeup call and wants to be part of her life again. She’ll have to decide if her heart is big enough for forgiveness.

Tennyson stole my heart in the first book, and he takes an even bigger piece in this sequel. The way he loves his son from the moment he finds out he’s going to be a father is so touching it had me in tears. And the way he cares for Sophie, wanting to help her but knowing when to back off, is enough to turn the hardest heart into a sap. Cara Dee also follows through with Tennyson and Sophie embracing their age difference instead of using it as a reason to keep them apart, and the resulting encounters practically melted the pages of my e-reader.

The secondary characters were also well-incorporated into the story. I found myself loving the bits and pieces we saw of Brooklyn, Asher, and Noah, and I was thankful for the inclusion of their lives in this story.

At the end of the day, this is a celebrity romance, which is one of my favorite things to read. The balance of normal life and fame was perfect, putting With Brave Wings right up near the top of my list of favorite books.

One Brave Girl Finding Her Wings

I have a confession to make: I'm a Caraholic. Yep, that's right, I'm addicted to everything Cara Dee writes, so it's no wonder that after reading this book I fell a bit more in love with this author.

The book is the sequel to Breaking Free. Last we left off, Tennyson and Sophie had parted ways, but they both knew it would be a very long time before they could actually let go of what they had. What started as a showmance became real and deep, and when push came to shove they both renounced what was the first real connection they both had ever had in years.

I must admit, I freaking LOVE the fact Cara portrayed these characters as real as possible. There is no drama for the sake of drama, no villain for the sake of evilness, and no sex for the sake of smut. Every plot point of this story happens for a reason, and it was wonderful (though sometimes frustrating) to see Tennyson and Sophie reconnect and fall in love all over again. The Hollywood setting takes a step back to let us see the real people behind the glamour. Kudos to Cara Dee for giving us a glance of how love can be found in the most unusual places, and how worth it is to fight for the ones we love, even when some people *coughs*Mrs.Wright*coughs* think it's not the right person for you.

I was so ecstatic to get this second book after falling in love with these two in Breaking Free. I was NOT disappointed at all. I read it in almost one sitting, my family was ignored while I found out how Sophie and Tennyson were going to find their ever after.
First of all, I will say that this is probably one of the first times I not only accepted the age gap in a couple, but also felt it was perfect for them and what they each needed, and HOT too. I relished Tennyson's maturity and guidance of Sophie and enjoyed her growth from a self-absorbed starlet into a powerful player in Hollywood. And the key to my heart in any romance is always the way they lust after each other but just don't give in right away, yes, we got that too. The glances, the fire they both felt, but didn't satisfy. And oh yeah, a little bit of jealousy. Yes! As co-parents they are a powerhouse couple...and I'm glad the author took her time in showing the reader that these two were perfect together (even though I knew this already hello!!!) It was worth the wait for book 2 and it was a satisfying conclusion for me. Time to re-read them both!
